Nestled between two beautiful mountains, the capital city of Andorra, Andorra La Vella, is really the place to be during the winter and summer seasons. Between both the older historic part of town and the newer renovated part of town, there is so much to see and do. There are a few famous churches that you can visit in the area, and not shopping would be silly as Andorra La Vella is a tax haven and is exempt from sales tax. Since Andorra La Vella is the highest elevated capital city, you can imagine that the views from the mountains and from the town square are gorgeous. Don’t forget about the history. The town is filled with all kinds of interesting facts and stories.

Skiers will likely be the first to feel at home. Andorra La Vella’s buses will take people to the ski resorts on the mountains, and hotels often have brochures and information about the resorts for newcomers to look at.

There are plenty of things you’re going to want to see while walking the streets of Andorra La Vella. The most famous tourist attraction (besides the wonderful skiing) is the Church of Saint Esteve. If you’re looking for it, you’ll need to meander over to the older half of town. Despite the fact that it’s a 12th century church, masses are still held even today! You can get free guided tours from July through August each year. The Church of Saint Andreu is another 12th century church in the same area.

If you’re just looking for a peaceful place to sit down and read a book, Andorra La Vella’s town square will most likely be one of your favorite places to come back to. The town square offers a beautiful panoramic view of the valley below the town coupled with a comfortable environment to sit in.

The Caldea spa and swimming center is also a wonderful place to visit, no matter what season happens to be blowing. This relaxing building can be quite a treat for you. Relieve all of your stresses at the spa, swimming pool, or sauna (or all three!).

Don’t forget that Andorra La Vella is the capital of Andorra. For those visitors into politics, the Parliament building is in the old part of town, right next to the Church of Saint Esteve. What makes this building interesting (besides the fact that it’s the Parliament building) is that it is one of the newer buildings in the district, with a modern twist to match. The roof on the building doubles as a relaxing park, with the hill behind the building leading up to the roof.

Shopping is the reason many people come to Andorra La Vella from all over the world. The town is actually one of the few tax havens in Europe, meaning sales tax is not a part of the local economic system (that’s not hard to say no to). Andorra La Vella primarily sells electronics and furniture with some jewelry stores thrown in the mix.

Between all the electronic stores in town, you can find nearly every make and model of a lot of popular electronics. The same can be said for the furniture stores, and somewhat for the jewelers.

There aren’t an overwhelming amount of restaurants in town, but the ones that are there offer mouth-watering Italian food, like pasta and pizza.

Though small, Andorra La Vella has something for everyone. Teenagers will almost certainly be drawn to the skiing and electronics, while adults will find peace and quiet in every nook and cranny they look. The town of Andorra La Vella is a trip that people would be foolish to overlook in their vacation plans to Europe.
