The city of Klagenfurt is the capital city of Federal State of Carinthia in Austria. This city is known to be the bishop’s seat of the Roman Catholic diocese of Gurk- Klagenfurt. Here you will also find the Alepn-Adria University. You may also hear Klagenfurt being referred to as the Rose of the Lake Wörthersee. Geographically you will find this a beautiful place to visit as there are gorgeous lakes to visit and you can get spectacular views of the surrounding forest covered hills and soaring mountains which tower over the cityscape.
When you arrive in Klagenfurt you will find a city which is modern yet retains its Old World charm and appeal. There are many places to visit and activities to keep you happily occupied while you are on holiday here. As there are many interesting sights you can take in you may want to start your sightseeing with a visit to the Minimundus. The Minimundus is a park where you will see many miniature buildings from all corners of the world. All of the buildings found within this park are built to scale and they are exceptionally beautiful. You will find models of the White House, the Taj Mahal, and the Eiffel Tower, the Suleiman Mosque, the Statue of Liberty, St. Peter's cathedral and many others.
From this fantastic park you may next want to journey to Lindworm statue. You can see this statue near the centre of Klagenfurt’s major square the Neuer Platz. The statue was built in the 16th century to commemorate the legend of the lindworm who lived in the area and caused immense flooding until it was killed by some young men of the area. The statue allows visitors to visit this interesting inhabitant of yesteryear Klagenfurt.
Speaking of interesting sights you will see in Klagenfurt you might want to venture to the home of Gustav Mahler Komponierhäuschen. He was a famous musician who lived and worked close to Klagenfurt. Sometime in 1899 he bought a small mansion which has today been turned into an archival museum about him. Here you will be able to see various postcards, letters and other documents which were written by Gustav Mahler. Since the museum has guides who can speak English, French and German you should not have any trouble with understanding the various exhibits you will see. This museum is open from May to October from 10am to 4pm.
In between your various sightseeing excursions you may like to visit Lake Wörthersee. This lake is the warmest of the large Alpine lakes. In addition to being the warmest you will also find that its lake provides Klagenfurt with Europe’s largest non-sea beach and lido area. Here on a lovely summer day you will find there are plenty of people who have come to enjoy relaxing by the lake as well.
