Cavtat, Croatia
The town of Cavtat can be found in the country of Croatia. The region where this town is located is known as the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. Cavtat is primarily a fishing village but it also has the attraction of being a seaside resort in Croatia. The town of Cavtat is situated along a horseshoe shaped harbor. Cavtat is about 17 kilometers from Dubrovnik. This means that you will be in prime position to visit Dubrovnik on an exploring excursion or even visit some of the surrounding villages.
Visitors to Cavtat will find that it has numerous hotels and inns where you can stay while you are visiting this town. The various beaches of Cavtat are also a pleasure to visit as these will provide you with the various facilities that you are looking for. And surprisingly enough you will also find the history of Cavtat to be revealed with visits to various landmarks found here.
Even though the town of Cavtat is a seaside resort you will find there are other sights and activities to keep you occupied. These will include the modern resort facilities which are required for a holiday in a resort, shopping and dining as well. Besides these delights you will find that Cavtat has an interesting site that you can visit. This site is the ruins of the Roman town that was known as Epidaurum. As the town of Cavtat is built on this site you will only be able to see a few of the ruins here and that includes a Roman theatre. From this site you may want to travel to the Rector's Palace.
Here in the Rector's Palace of Cavtat – which is locally known as Knezev Dvor – you will find a collection which is known as the Baltazar Bogisic Collection. This collection can be found within the Rector's Palace. The palace which was built during the 16th Century is a magnificent piece of Renaissance architecture. In addition to the Baltazar Bogisic Collection you will find other artifacts and exhibits on display.
These will include a variety of art works and numerous coins from various places and eras. You will also be able to see a number of Roman pieces which have been carefully gathered from the area surrounding Cavtat. In addition to looking at these displays you may wish to visit the Vlaho Bukovac Gallery. You will find this gallery located in the Vlaho Bukovac’s house.
From visiting the museum and the gallery there is another interesting place you may wish to visit. This is the Racic Mausoleum of Cavtat. The mausoleum was designed by the well known sculptor Ivan Mestrovic. While you may think that visiting a mausoleum is not one place that you might want to visit there are many who will inform you that the Racic Mausoleum is one of the must see locations in Cavtat.
