Ayia Napa, Cyprus
Agia Napa, or Ayia Napa as it is also known, is to be found in Cyprus. Once covered in dense woodland, this resort town has now come to rival the likes of Ibiza and Rimini as a popular tourist hotspot. In fact, such is the popularity of this resort town that it is known for being one of the prime places for great nightlife in Cyprus.
Being a resort town facing the sea, Ayia Napa has many beaches to visit and most tourists are all out to take advantage of the glorious weather that shines down upon the sandy beaches of Agia Napa.
In this case, a plethora of good beaches also means that residents of Ayia Napa and visitors alike can spend their time excelling in the many water sports offered. These include but are not limited to speed boating, canoeing, water skiing and scuba diving.
If you are looking for something tamer, you can always just laze around on the beaches or take a refreshing dip in the clear blue ocean. If you want a beach that is less crowded, you might want to try out Lanta beach, or the New Golden Bay as it is also called.
However, if you want to get in a little culture while you are in Ayia Napa, there is no better place to start than the Ayia Napa Monastery which the town grew around, over many years. Dating back to 1500 A.D. it is a charming place to visit and shows just how much the little fishing village has changed.
For another way to cool off during the heat of mid-day, you might want to take a walk through Ayia Napa’s museum showcasing the marine life to be found in and around Cyprus. This, the Tornaritis-Pierides Museum of Marine Life is something that can give you an insight into what lies beneath the cool ocean waves.
Or you might want to take a walk up to the Municipal Museum of the Sea in Ayia Napa, which is dedicated to the preservation of marine life and has showcases of marine life dating back from prehistoric times.
If you came to Ayia Napa for a weekend getaway however, chances are that you came for the renowned nightlife. If this is the case, you won’t be disappointed as there is a host of places for you to go to. This is especially true of The Square. Found in the centre of town, it is the best place to find your fill of night clubs, bars, restaurants, cafés and shops, all in one place.
Be warned that it can get quite crowded during the height of the tourist season so be prepared to have to jostle your way along. However, it cannot be denied that Ayia Napa is a charming place in which to spend your holiday, (this is in spite of the masses of tourists flocking there) and you will find that your time is well spent sampling everything that Ayia Napa has to offer you.
