La Baule, France

The town of La Baule can be found in the Loire-Atlantique department of western France. This town which is near the Atlantic Ocean is famous for its 12 kilometer long sandy beaches. This is the longest beach strip in the whole of Europe. The town was originally built closer to the coastline than what you see today. In 1779 the original town was buried under the sand dunes as the result of a violent storm. Once the storm had subsided it was decided that it would be better and safer for the townsfolk if La Baule was built more inland. As a result the present day town of La Baule can be found in its present location.

While lounging at the beach may sound heavenly to many people La Baule is famous for another reason besides that of its glorious beach. The town plays host to the Grand Prix de la Ville de La Baule. This is an important show jumping competition which is part of the international Equestrian Nations Cup series. Historically another racing competition also took place in La Baule. This was the 1930s Grand Prix de la Baule. This event was a Grand Prix motor racing event.

Watching a horse jumping championship is not the only activity that you will be able to do while you are here. There are many interesting activities that can keep you fully occupied while you are in La Baule. Since the beach is one of the main reasons why visitors come to this town you may enjoy walking along the beach taking in the fresh air, the golden sands and the stunning view that you will get.

In addition to walking along the beach at La Baule you will find that you can visit the Pornic Spa. Here you can relax and rejuvenate from life’s hassles. This lovely spa can be found south of St. Nazaire which is just south of the Loire River. Once you have relaxed at the spa you can consider looking in at the casino which is located between the Le Royal and L’Hermitage Hotels of La Baule. You can order other accompaniments like that of mussels or cheese sauce. While you eat your fantastic pancakes here you can look out at the stunning scenery presented by the Côte Sauvage or Wild Coast.
