Rouen, France
Rouen that is in France is a capital city in Normandy, and has historical significance due to D-day.
In the middle ages Rouen serves as a capital to one of the Anglo-Norman dynasties which controlled England and France.
Rouen is also the location where Joan of Arc was burnt back in 1431.
Rouen people are called Rouennais, and its population consists of about half a million people or more.
If you are going to visit Rouen for a vacation or as a stopping point in your tour of several countries, and you want to watch the sights the city has to offer, you can visit the famous and historical Notre Dame cathedral which is the subject of several of Monet's paintings which are displayed in a museum in Paris.
The Notre Dame cathedral was established in 1202 and has undergone renovations since then. It is build in a Gothic style and is a Roman Catholic cathedral in the northwest part of France, where the Archibishop of Rouen is seated.
You can also visit the famous Church of Saint Maclou which was built in the 15th century, also in a Gothic design, and several other churches, including the one where Joan of Arc was brought to be threatened and tortured.
While in Rouen you can also see many of its still surviving historical houses that were built using the half-timbered design.
Rouen also boasts many museums which include the Musee des Beaux-Arts de Rouen which is an art museum that displays famous artists, like the late and great Claude Monet which founded the French impressionistic period. That are museum is in the heart of Rouen and was created back in 1801 by Napoleon the first, but the current building it resides in was built in the 1880s.
If you prefer to watch sport matches and races, you can enjoy the French Grand Prix which Rouen is the home to, and the races take place at Rouen-Les-Essarts.
If you are worried about the state of transportation into and around Rouen, you have multiple choices. You can take a mainline train service that starts at Gare de Rouen-Rive-Droite and goes to Le Havre and even Paris. It also reaches local tourist attractions and destinations inside Normandy and trains are operating on a daily basis, which can take you to Lille or Amiens.
You can also take high-speed trains which are called TGVs that go to Lyon and Marseille daily.
Inside the city you can use the metro which has two lines that run through the Rouen city center, or you can take the buses that are available in the city which operate in conjunction to the railroad.
Rouen also boasts being the place where many famous people of historical significance were born in, like Edward the fourth which was the king of England, or Adrien Auzout which was an astronomer in the 1600s, and Stephan Caron which is a freestyle swimmer, and many more.
