Strasbourg, France
In France the capital of the Alsace region is that of Strasbourg. The fame of this city is due to two factors. These factors are the Grande Ile which is an historic site of great beauty and the other factor is due to UNESCO declaring the entire city as a World Heritage Site. As this city is a major destination for tourists you should expect that the city will have large numbers of visitors coming to see what they can find in Strasbourg.
As this city is pedestrian friendly you can explore the city on foot or with a bicycle. In order to avoid the crowds and to make the most of your holiday it is best if you plan on staying in Strasbourg for some days. Additionally taking the time to choose what sights to see will allow you plenty of time to enjoy the friendly atmosphere of this city and relax at the same time.
As you look at the different places to visit in Strasbourg you may want to start off with a visit to Petite France. This lovely area is home to one of the most photogenic streets and buildings in the city. The European district is the home of sites like the European Court of Human Rights, the European Parliament and other such places.
Some of the events that you can take part in while you are visiting Strasbourg will include the marché aux Puces which is a flea market. You can locate this flea market on rue de Vieil-Hôpital. It takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Christmas markets in Strasbourg offers its visitors with the chance of eating Brédalas which are Christmas cookies and drinking hot wine.
In addition to these shopping locations you will find there are other places like that of the Galeries Lafayettes. Besides shopping and sightseeing you will also be able to find good places to eat food in Strasbourg. The various restaurants here will range in price, quality and different foods. For the most you will be able to order traditional Alsatian food and wines.
The foods which you can order here for the most part are foods like Sauerkraut. These will often be accompanied by sausages and other meats. Another Alsatian specialty that you may want to try is that of the Flammeküche. This is a wafer thin pizza which has an onion cream sauce topping Alsatian pork. Or you could try the Fleischnackas. This dish is mixed beef which is presented in spirals and served with salads. Another interesting dish to try would be that of Baeckeoffe. This is a stew made with pork, beef, carrots and potatoes. In general you will find this dish is served for two or more people.

Since the city can be busy during the Christmas season and when the European parliament is in session each month, you might find it somewhat difficult to obtain rooms at these times.
