Bonn, Germany
This 19th largest city in Germany can be found near the Rhine River in the Cologne/ Bonn region. The city of Bonn is the birthplace of the famous composer Ludwig von Beethoven. Of course this is not the only reason to visit this city. You will find many interesting places and sights to look at while you are here. As these can be quite numerous you may want to plan on having a longer holiday just to take these in.
Since the main reason for sightseeing is the interesting monuments, and other such attractions what will you find when you come to Bonn? Well you may want to see the Das Bonner Münster which is a basilica which lies in the city’s centre. You may like to look at the Palais Schaumburg. This building is the secondary home of the Chancellor of the city. Another place that you may like to see is that of Villa Hammerschmidt in Adenauerallee 135. This building used to be home of the German President however as the residence of the president has since then been moved this building is now a secondary home for the president.
In addition to these places you should see about visiting Kreuzbergkirche. This church is most famous for its Holy Staircase or the “Heiliger Steige”. This staircase is believed to have pieces from the very cross where Jesus was crucified. These pieces of the cross are set into the stone work on the staircase itself. Hence the name Holy Staircase.
For those of you who are interested in other places of interest will find a visit to the Beethoven-Haus a good place to go. Here you will find a museum which is dedicated to the composer Beethoven and the various works of music which he composed. At this museum you will find there is a lock of Beethoven’s hair on display.
Other museums that you can visit will include the Aegyptisches Museum, the Deutsches Museum Bonn, and the Zoologisches Forschungsmuseum and the Alexander Koenig amongst others. Before you visit any of these museums you should take the time to find out when they are open as coming to these places when they are closed will deprive you of the chance of seeing the exhibits and other sights in the city that you can look at.
For those of you who want to see what the nightlife in Bonn is like you can visit these night clubs. These will include N8schicht where you can find theme parties, Carpe Noctem which is an underground rock club for young patrons and other places. You will be able to buy chocolate and other sweets at the Haribo Factory Store.
With so much to see and do while in Bonn, you will have a great time visiting the city of Bonn in Germany. The next time you are thinking about taking a holiday see about visiting the city of Bonn instead of crowded beaches where the only activity you can do is to bake under the sun.
