Considered to be part of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region of Germany Norderstedt is one of the five largest cities in that area. Norderstedt was originally four different towns that have now been merged into one city. Located near the city of Hamburg visitors to this young town can not only enjoy what Norderstedt has to offer but can also enjoy some of the sites and entertainment in Hamburg proper.

Norderstedt is still a growing community, economically is how they are growing most but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still some things to enjoy and do while in this city. For the nature lover there are many parks to visit. The northern German country side is connected to the city by “green belts” which gives you plenty of beautiful gardens to view.

In the winter you can enjoy one of the toboggan runs and in the summer the Norderstedt-Mitte toboggan run is used as a BMX track for those who like extreme cycling.

Norderstedt is also home to the popular water park, Arriba. This park offers cool refreshment on a hot day, with pools and water slides its fun for the entire family.
Sporting activities are not the only things that Norderstedt has to offer its guests. For guests that want a little culture all you have to do is visit one of the two museums located in Norderstedt.

The Museum of Norderstedt contains historical exhibitions that tell the story of how the four towns came together to form Norderstedt. This museum is also home to rotating exhibits that show cultural issues and different areas of arts. For those extremely interested in Norderstedt’s history you can access the city archives, with the assistance of the Museum and its workers of course.

There is also the Fire Museum of Schleswig-Holstein. This museum is centered on fire themes, mainly the technological and cultural issues surrounding preventative and protective fire safety. This museum is the largest of its kind measuring fifteen hundred square feet of exhibitions. Fire equipment and prevention methods are not the only things shown at this museum, although they are the main attractions, there are works of art, literature, music, and movies that rotate through the museum.
The Fire Museum of Schleswig-Holstein is also home to one of the only public pubs in a museum in the area. This pub is open to all that want to enjoy a nice meal while touring the establishment.

Being so close to Hamburg visitors to Norderstedt can also enjoy many of these attractions. Of particular interest is the Treppenviertel Blankenese. This area known as the staircase district has narrow lanes, turn-of-the century villas and a nice Mediterranean feel to it. The beauty in this area is one to not be missed if you are able to take the trip.

Norderstedt is a young town that is growing. While it might not have a lot to offer tourists right now the beautiful natural surroundings, fun sports activities, and unique museums can make your stop enjoyable.
