With an interesting history, the city of Potsdam in Germany is situated 25 kilometers southwest of Berlin and is the capital of Brandenburg. The city is famous for being the residence of the Prussian Kings who built historical sites between the 18th and 19th century such as the Sanssouci Castle and the Nues Palais. Potsdam also played host to the Potsdam conference of 1945 to establish a post-war order for WWII and almost all of Potsdam’s attractions were declared part of the world heritage by UNESCO.

The city of imperial palaces and gardens hosts festivals such as Jazz and contemporary music concerts typically during September as well as an annual tree blossom festival held in the months of April to early May which has interestingly enough run for over a century. Postdam also holds a culture night in early summer, and romantic Christmas markets open from November to late December.
In 1830 Karl Friedrich Schinkel built the church of Nikolaikirche, along with the Berliner Dom and Konzerthaus. Accordingly, the church is also a popular tourist attraction. The dome and obelisk of the church were added between 1843 and 1848 and between 1753 and 1755 respectively.
Of all the castles of Potsdam, the 1747 Palace of Schloss Sanssouci which was built as a residence for the then Prussian kings is the most renowned; it is situated in Sanssouci Park, just west of Potsdam's town center. Many actors who practiced here moved to America when the Nazis came to power. Pay a visit to film sets from old films and marvel at what were once great special effects.
The Jägertor built in 1733, is one of the 5 city gates that garrisoned Potsdam. Only 3 still stand to this day. And although the remaining Nauener Tor, and the Brandenburger were not erected until much later, they maintain the neo-gothic style of their time. These bastions of Potsdam were recently opened to the public and are a major attraction of the city.
Or you can visit the old Chinese Tea House at Sanssouci, which was founded in 1756 by J. G. Buring and decorated with 18th century Chinese porcelain.
