Whenever people mention Greece the city of Delphi is usually mentioned as a must see place. Yet for all of this they will seldom give you any further information about what you can find here and where you will find the town itself. Hopefully this article will help you with some of these questions. The first point that you need to know is where Delphi is. When you arrive in Greece you will need to travel to the valley of Phocis which can be found on the south western ridge of Mount Parnassus. It is in this valley that you will find the town of Delphi.
So now that you know where to find this town the next item you are probably wondering about is what you will find when you go there. Well you need to understand that for many people the best things to see in Delphi are ruins and statues from the ancient Grecian times. If you are a lover of sites like this then you will enjoy wandering around the town. In between seeing these ruins and archeological sites you will find that the town itself has many of the modern amenities which are need when you are in another country.
Here in the town of Delphi you will find many good hotels and guest houses where you can stay while you explore the city. There are excellent restaurants where you will be able to savor the exquisite food of Greece and Delphi. To refresh yourself you will find there are numerous bars and taverns. Once you have located all of these facilities then you may wish to head over to the Delphi Archeological Museum.
This museum can be found at the foot of the main archeological complex which is situated on the east side of the town. Within the museum you will find there are many statues like the famous charioteer which is made from bronze. You will also find fragmented reliefs from the Siphnian Treasury. Additionally in the museum you will the Naxian Sphinx statute which is well worth looking at. Each room which houses these exhibits deals with a different class of objects which will allow you to see and understand the importance of these artifacts.
Another great place for you to visit while you are in Delphi is that of the Sanctuary of Apollo. This sanctuary is one of the most important and sacred sites in the Greek world. It was from this sanctuary that the Oracle would counsel the people who came here. In those days it was believed that the God Apollo would himself speak words of wisdom using a high priestess who was under a mystical trance. The sanctuary of Apollo was considered very sacred.
In Delphi you will find there are many places which are seen as being temples or sanctuaries to various gods and goddesses. One such place that you will find which is well worth visiting is that of the Sanctuary of Athena. In this sanctuary you will see a mysterious 4th century rotunda. While not many people will consider this place as being important to visit it nonetheless is a very beautiful spot to come and explore.
So as you see the town of Delphi holds many interesting places for you to look at. Since there are many more sights and places that you can visit while you are here you may enjoy your time more if you plan on staying in Delphi for an extended visit.
