Piskopianón, Greece
Located on a hill alongside Koutouloufari, Piskopianon offers a wonderful view over Chersonissos and the sea. The village is part of the island of Crete, which belongs to Greece. The authentic homes, shops and small streets give you an excellent idea of the origins and character of Greece. Crete is the most Southern island and it is mostly consists of hills and mountains.
Over 90% of the people living in Piskopianon are Greek and it is one of the quieter villages in the area, because most people visit or move to the bigger towns. This also means the crime rates are very low and it is most likely one of the safest places to visit in the world.
Greece is known for its national dishes and you can't visit without trying out the cuisine. You will be able to visit many traditional taverns and restaurants where you can taste the famous Greek dishes like moussaka, tzaziki and of course feta cheese. Another tradition you will have to try is the sirtake-dance. It is only 50 years old but the country is well known for it and you can take lessons locally.
Because Piskopianon is a small village the city center only has a couple small shops, supermarkets and bars. Many of those bars have facilities to sit outside. There is a big playground for children and you can play sports on one of the tennis courts.
There are many places where you can rent a car so you will be able to move around on the island and visit other villages and towns. One of those is Chersonissos which is popular among young tourists. It is packed with hotels, shops, restaurants and clubs. You can also go to the beach and rent surfboards and water scooters.
The closest airport is located at Heraklion, the capital of Crete. This city has a lot of history and there are many museums you can visit like the Heraklion Archaeological Museum. Here you will be able to see the world's largest collection of Minoan art. To see more of the history of Crete you can visit the Historical Museum of Crete. A must see in this area is the Palace of Knossos which contains the stories of many local legends.
From June to September you could visit the Heraklion Summer Arts Festival where you can enjoy music and see dancers from all over the world in the open-air theatres. If you are looking for something more adventurous you can go horseback riding or rock climbing with experienced guides that are available locally, or visit the Aqua Plus water parks.
Many traveling agencies offer tours where you visit multiple islands of Greece to see more of the country. Crete is a very diverse island where you can make any trip or take any vacation you like. In the village of Piskopianon you will be able to relax, get a tan, experience the Greek culture and tradition and take beautiful walks in the surrounding areas.
