Vacationing in the coast is a “no-brainer” for the seasoned tourist. Nothing beats the Amalfi Coast when it comes to coastal vacations and where better to stay than at the heart of it all; Amalfi, Italy. Amalfi is a town full of culture, beaches, and history, comprised of a diverse community with a plethora of sights to see and food to eat.
The coast-town’s biggest component is its history. Amalfi began in the first century A.D. as a small Roman community with a few villas. It didn’t take long for Amalfi to grow due to its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea, which allowed a bountiful trade of fish. Even today, the people of Amalfi still practice old customs and keep with traditions. Some of the old watchtowers can still be seen around the town to this day.
Hikers will not be disappointed when traveling to Amalfi. One of the town’s best attractions is its views of the surrounding area. Around nearly every turn you will find another breathtaking view of the coast or the rest of town (sometimes both!). There are trails scattered all around that will lead to neighboring towns, offering wonderful views along the way. These trails are also wide enough for bikers as well, so don’t feel afraid to bring that new mountain bike you’ve been itching to try.
Don’t feel left out if you’re not much of a hiker. Amalfi has escort services that will drive you around, allowing you to see the sights from the comfort of a car seat. Even better, there are several cruise lines that take passengers out in the open Mediterranean.
Yachts are also available for rental. Nothing is more relaxing than spending time on the open sea with just your family. Even if you just want a ride to another coastal town, ferry services are there to transport people between all kinds of diverse communities.
Amalfi is a very popular choice for weddings among couples. Because of this, there are plenty of wedding planners around town to help fiancés plan their ceremony. Imagine “sealing the deal” with a picture-perfect view of the sea in the background! And if you’re looking for a wedding ring, you won’t need to go very far. Two respectable local jewelers are there in town to help. GAF Jewels and Angelo Fusco Jewels would be more than happy to help you find the perfect ring.
When dinner comes around, you’re probably going to seek out some fine dining. Amalfi has one of the top restaurants around – Da Gemma. This traditional Mediterranean restaurant serves the finest fish around and also has its own wine cellar. Their traditional Italian wines and desserts will make you wish you lived in Amalfi year-round!
Vacationing in the coast can be a wonderful experience. The views, food, people, and the sea will entrance you, giving you a look into the simple coastal life. And who says you need to spend all your time in Amalfi? Many of the Mediterranean towns are connected by roads and hiking trails which allow you to experience some of the best varieties of Italy, with Amalfi at the center of it all.
