Garda, Italy
Garda that is in Italy is a commune that is located in the Lake Garda shore. A commune is a basic form of administrative division that divides provinces and regions, and is similar to the English concept of township or of a municipality.
Lake Garda which is known in Italian as Lago di Garda, and is sometimes known as Benaco, is the largest lake in Italy and is located in the northern part of Italy. It is halfway between Venice and Milan, and is very easily accessible from the north.
The lake shares its surface with the provinces of Verona, Trento and Brescia.
Garda is located in the province of Verona which is known in Italy as the Provincia di Verona, and is a province in the Veneto region. Just like its name suggests, the capital of the Verona province is the city of Verona. The Veneto region is only one of twenty different regions in Italy and holds about 5 million people. Venice serves as its capital.
Garda is considered a characteristic town in the east coast, and is only about 32 kilometres from the city of Verona and is considered one of the smallest towns in that province.
When in Garda, whether you are visiting as part of an educational trip or as a vacation spot, or if you want to take a holiday off work, and if you are visiting alone or with other people (family or friends) there is a lot for you to see in Garda.
While in Garda you can visit the old village of Garda which features narrow streets that you can walk between and were built around the 16th century, and you can also go visit the Captain's Palace which is a Venetian palace that was constructed way back in the 14th century.
You can also visit the Villa Carlotti and a local church that was built around the 18th century and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
You can also go to the 300 meter high rock called The Old Rock of Garda, which offers a spectacular view of the entire town as well as the lake, and is the home to a Carmelite monastery which was built during the 15th century.
You can also use Garda as the base for your travels, and you can jump over to bordering communes which are very close. Those include the Costermano commune, the San Felice del Benaco commune, the Torri del Benaco commune and several more.
While in Garda you can also visit the San Vigilio which is a village that got its name from the saint Vigilius (also known as San Vigilio) and became famous way back in 1540 when Agostino Brenzoni built a villa near there, in a small park. Nowadays it is more famous due to the amount of famous people and celebrities that stayed within that villa when visiting Garda or areas near there. Those people include Winston Churchill and Laurence Olivier as well as the British royal family and many more.
