Gardone Riviera, Italy
It can not be denied that Italy is a beautiful country nor that you will be spoilt for choice as where you stay. Of the various locations you can choose you may wish to see about visiting Gardone Riviera. You will see that this place is a small tourist resort which is located on the western shores of Lake Garda in northern Italy. Gardone Riviera is situated in the province of Brescia in the Lombardy region.
While you may feel like staying only in the resort you will find there are other great places here in Gardone Riviera you can visit if you choose. These will range from seeing places like Heller Garden which is a botanical garden that is situated just uphill from Gardone Riviera’s waterfront. For many people the garden is known as the Giardino Hruska Botanico after its founder, Arthur Hruska. He was the dentist of the last Tsar and he was an avid botanist.
To cater for his love of plants Hruska began the laying out of this tropical paradise from 1910 to 1971. To get the best advantage for his various plants Hruska choose this sheltered spot and Gardone Riviera’s mild climate to plant as many exotic species as he could lay his hands on. This is the result of all of that hard work. To help keep the botanical garden prospering you will see the garden has a foundation which has been set up by the artist Andre Heller.
The various works of modern art which can be found dotted among the plants, pools and streams draws visitors in as much as the beauty of the garden does. The garden is open daily between the months of March to October from 9am to 7pm. Once you have relaxed and seen the beauty of the garden you may wish to visit Gardone Sopra or Gardone above. You will find Gardone Sopra is just a short uphill walk from the lakeshore. It is a charming historic centre to be found in Gardone Riviera.
Here in Gardone above you will find there are many small restaurants, courtyards, and stairs to explore. The numerous flowers you will see here will enhance your time spent here. While you are in Gardone Sopra do take the time to visit the Vittoriale which can be found up here, and also enjoy the panoramic views over Lake Garda.
Once you have visited Gardone Sopra you might want to visit the home of Gabriele D'Annunzio who was an eccentric poet. He named his house after an Italian military victory. The name which was thus given is that of Il Vittoriale degli Italiani. This house in Gardone Riviera is now a national monument which was donated to the Italian government after his death and it houses the plane on which D'Annunzio raided Vienna and a MAS fast military ship. You will find that this house is considered as must see attraction when you are in Gardone Riviera.
