Napoli, Italy
Naples Italy, birthplace of pizza and one of the largest cities in southern Italy is an expansive beautiful city. Founded by the Greeks, Naples is only a few hours south of Rome and is one of the top travel destinations in all of Italy.
Visitors to Naples will enjoy the architecture and historic culture this city has to offer. The Palazzo Reale is one of these structures. Commissioned in 1600 by the ruling Spanish Viceroys it was not completed until 1843. At that time it served as a home to the nobles. Now its thirty first floor rooms can be viewed by visitors.
Another example of Naples architecture and culture is the San Francesco di Paola. This building was based on the Pantheon of Rome and its circular basilica is designed in neoclassic style. The grandiose main alter inside is detailed in gold and precious jewels.
A popular tourist attraction is the Teatro San Carlos. This theater was originally built in 1737. The high quality acoustics made it the perfect theater for opera lovers. The original theater was destroyed by a fire in 1816 but it was rebuilt to it grandeur shortly afterward. Opera aficionados need to make sure Teatro San Carlos is on their list of places to see.
Families with children might want to check out the Endenlandia. Endenlandia is the largest amusement park in the Campania area. With many rides and attractions kids of all ages will enjoy a trip to Endenlandia.
Also a hit with children is the Naples Aquarium. One of the first aquariums in Europe, Naples Aquarium was founded in the late 19th Century by a German naturalist. With over 200 species of fish and marine plant life the Naples Aquarium is one of the most popular stops in Naples.
Located next to Naples is Mount Vesuvius. This active volcano is not currently erupting but is known best for the destruction of Pompeii. Visitors to the Naples area might want to go visit the national park of Mount Vesuvius. Visitors can go to the summit if they wish. There are paths that are maintained by park personnel.
Whilst visiting Mount Vesuvius, tourists can also visit the ruins of Pompeii. Pompeii is the most noted and famous ruins in all of Italy. Destroyed by an eruption from Mount Vesuvius many of the buildings, paintings and other artifacts remain well preserved even though they date back to the first century.
Naples is a place of culture and history. Its close proximity to many areas of historical significance plus its own history make it a top tourist destination. History buffs from around the world visit Naples for its beauty and architecture.
