Parma, Italy
Parma that is in Italy is a city that is located in the Emilia-Romagna region which is famous for its distinctive architectural buildings and the countryside that surrounds it. It also hosts that University of Parma which is considered to be one of the oldest universities in the world.
Parma is made up of two locations that are separated by a small stream.
The population in Parma is about 180,000 making it a population density of about 690 people per square kilometer, or about 1,790 per square mile.
Parma is famous for its many historical buildings and its rich history which attract many tourists and students each year, which are interested in learning about the culture in Parma and about its varied history.
If you are planning on visiting it with either your friends or your family, or even by yourself, you need to know what to choose from, since there are many things to see and experience in the city of Parma.
Among those ancient buildings and old attractions, which showcase the city's varied history, is the churches and cathedrals that are located all over the city.
One of those cathedrals is a one that was built in a Romanesque style of architecture and houses a sculpture made by Benedetto Antelami in the 12th century, as well as a 16th century fresco by Antonio da Correggio, which is considered to be a masterpiece.
While there you can also visit the adjacent baptistery which started as early as 1196 by Antelami.
While in Parma you can also visit the famous Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Steccata, which is designed in the form of a Greek cross, in a Renaissance style.
It started as a smaller building way back in 1392, but slowly grew and the sanctuary was eventually built there.
You can also visit the famous and ancient Benedictine Monastery of San Paolo - it was established way back in the 11th century and houses famous frescoes made by Correggio and Alessandro Araldi.
You can also visit the numerous palaces that are located in the city, if churches, monasteries and cathedrals don't interest you. Among the palaces that you can visit is the Palazzo della Pilotta which was built way back in 1583 and houses the Academy of Fine Arts, and is made out of several edifices and is located in the center of Parma, in the northern part of Italy.
You can also visit the Palazzo del Comune that was built in 1627 if you prefer "older" designs and builds.
You can also see and observe other locations and things of interest, which include the Teatro Farnese which was bought and commissioned by Ranuccio the first which was a duke, to be used for the visit of Cosimo I de' Medici which was built entirely in wood during the period of 1618 and 1619.
You can also go to the Museo Lombardi which has an extensive collection of art and other items of historical importance.
