Riva del Garda, Italy
One of the most magnificent lakes in the world is Lake Garda. To the north west of this splendid lake is located Riva del Garda more commonly known as Benaco. Surrounded with Mount Baldo (2,218 m) to the east and Mount Rocchetta (1,575 m) to its west Riva del Garda is a truly good spot to watch out for near Lake Garda. Originally this place belonged to the republic of Venice which was later absorbed into Italy in 1918. Riva del Garda is a perfect resort and it acts like a base point for tourists visiting Lake Garda.
Considered as one of the finest towns in Italy it offers a wide range of adventure sports apart from the scenic beauty of the lake. One can do mountain climbing or rock climbing, surfing, sailing and also bungee jumping. If you are not a person who is looking for some adventure then the spectacular white beaches of Riva del Garda are a perfect spot to relax in and enjoy your holiday in peace and harmony.
A fortress which was built to defend the city and to imprison the prisoners is now a major landmark in the form of a civic museum which is located in the center of Lake Garda. This 13th century Apponale tower is the most interesting thing to look out for in Riva del Garda. Apart from this the place is filled with many fortresses and one can hike their way up to all of them. Some of these to be visited are Rocca, and the Bastione.
Some other places to visit while here includes the famous Riva carnival which is held in the summer. Other attractions are Tenno lake which is located about 6 km to the north and Ledro lake located 5 km westward. Here you will find an interesting paleo-ethnographic museum, not to mention the famous Varone falls, one thing you cannot afford to miss out on a trip to Riva del Garda. There are also a lot of boat rentals available here which you can take advantage of and surf around the amazing Lake Garda and other attractions in and around Riva del Garda.
Riva is famous for its wide range of wines and these are a must try once you are here. Some of these you can try are Bianco del Garda, Lugana, and Vino Santo among a host of many others. Piazza Novembre is one place for food lovers, and the mansion houses many cafés and restaurants. Surprisingly Riva del Garda also offers good German cuisine.
Riva del Garda is well connected from all major cities in Italy and is easily accessible. It is also well connected by air and train. Riva del Garda is the cheapest place to stay around Lake Garda and moreover it is very near to other attractions nearby Lake Garda. Additionally it has a superb view of the fortress.
