The city of Roses in Spain can be found in the municipality of comarca in Catalonia. This city can be found on the coast of the Gulf of Roses. You will find this city to be set among stunningly beautiful scenery. There are many places that you can visit while you are here. One place that you should visit is that of the Trinity Castle. This castle was built in 1544 as a five pointed star. It was built to be an artillery fortress under the order of King Carlos V. The three terraces which can be found at different heights on this castle held batteries of cannons, and mortars which were used to defend the coastline and the port of Roses. The garrison which was housed here held 200 men to help with this defense.

Another famous sight of Roses is that of the lighthouse which was built during the reign of Queen Isabella II. This lighthouse is located below the castle. This lighthouse is no longer in use but it still stands as a monument to the men who risked their lives to keep those in the city safe from pirates and invaders. Of course the reminders of the past also can take place in the form of megalithic tombs. These tombs are in the shape of Dolmens. There are three of these dolmens to be found in Roses.

These dolmans stand as reminder about the people who settled in this area during the 3rd and 4th centuries BC. For a modern look at life you can visit the Salvador Dali museum in Figueres. The town of Figueres is about 18 kilometres to the west of Roses. In this museum you can see some of Salvador Dali’s most important works of art.

Lovers of nature will enjoy visiting the Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l'Emporda and that of the Creus Cape Peninsula in Roses. At both of these areas you will be able to see some unique species of wildlife and flora. The Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l'Emporda is made up of floodplains, salt marshes, dunes, cane fields and coastal lakes.

These areas, as they are protected from 1983 onwards, serve to act as a haven of safety for numerous types of birds and animals. While the wildlife here flourishes quite happily there are several bird observatories situated around lagoons, wild animal recovery centres to help any injured animals, and a stork breeding centre which is run with the help of the Barcelona Zoo.
