In the country of Italy you will find the municipality of Santa Margherita Ligure. This municipality can be found in the province of Genoa which is located in the Liguria region. The municipality is situated in the traditional Tigullio area. While most of the municipality is a sea port which attracts many visitors to its port, part of the municipality lies in the Regional Natural Park of Portofino. Besides being partly within the Regional Park, the municipality of Santa Margherita Ligure borders the municipalities of Portofino, Camogli and Rapallo.

During World War I the castle was damaged, this damage however was repaired after the war and the entire castle and its grounds was restored and entitled to the Italian victims of that conflict.
