The city of Luxembourg can be found within the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. You will find this delightful city in the Benelux area. For instance lovers of wines will enjoy a visit to the winery region which is located in the Moselle Valley. Here you will find different wineries where you can take part in wine tasting classes, tour the region of Moselle itself, or just take in the breathtaking scenery which includes picturesque castles as well. Of course you will find that the city of Luxembourg offers you other sights like the Grand Ducal Palace. This palace is the official seat of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg itself.

An important place in historic terms is that of the Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial. Here numerous soldiers who died in the Battle of the Bulge are buried. Besides these brave men buried here, you will also find General George S. Patton’s memorial as he wished to be buried alongside the brave men that he fought with during the Battle itself. You should also take the time to visit the Cathedral of Notre Dame.

The Notre-Dame Cathedral is a magnificent church where Jesuit priests placed the first cornerstone in 1613. Once this corner stone was place the construction of this Cathedral was able to begin. The architecture of the church can be considered as a good example of late Gothic architecture. While the Gothic style is the predominant style you will be able to find many Renaissance decorations and other architectural features in this church. You should take the time to visit this magnificent cathedral while you are in Luxembourg.

Another site you should think about visiting is that of Fort Thüngen. This historic fortification can be found in the capital itself. During the 1990s the fort was reconstructed from the plans of the original Fort. The fort was dismantled in 1867 as part of the Treaty of London. This treaty had ordered the destruction of many of the city’s various fortifications. When the reconstruction was carried out Fort Thüngen was made into a new modern art museum called the Mudam.

If you travel a little out of Luxembourg, you will be able to visit the town of Vianden where you will find a delightful old world town complete with cobbled streets, castle sitting atop a hill, and a river valley. If you want to get in some truly great views, you should also try the chairlift which can be found here, which will carry you up to a lookout point where you will be rendered quite breathless by the stunning views.

The various sites that you can see will allow you to see how this city fared even at the height of World War II. As you travel around the city take the time to see and consider what has occurred in this city. You will also be able to admire how the old architecture of the city blends in well with that of the modern architecture. Come to Luxembourg and experience a culture that is warm and welcoming.
