Travelers to the Netherlands will enjoy visiting the city of Eindhoven which lies in the province of Noord-Barbant. This province and the city are situated in the south of the Netherlands. During the early days of the city’s history it was possible to see two rivers running close to the city. Of these rivers the River Gender was dammed up; however the Dommel River can seen running through the city today.
For those of you who are interested in seeing some other cities while you stay here in Eindhoven, you will find the cities of Best, Son en Breugel, Waalre and Nuenen to be a few of the cities that you will be able to visit with ease. In addition to visiting these cities you will find there is much for the visitor to Eindhoven to see and do. You will be able to mix sightseeing with that of modern day shopping and entertainment.
You will find the city of Eindhoven has a number of museums that you will be able to visit. Of these you may want to see about visiting the Van Abbemuseum. This museum is well reputed for exhibiting a number of paintings from the modern and contemporary field of art. Within the museum you will be able to look at paintings by Picasso, Theo van Doesburg, Chagall, Appell and many such master painters. Once you have looked at these various paintings you may wish to see the Philips 1st Incandescent Lamp Factory.
This factory of the Philips Company was established in Eindhoven in 1891. Here in this factory turned museum you will be able to look at a number of different exhibits. The main theme you will see among all of these exhibits is that of the artificial lighting which is used. As you look at these various exhibits with the themed artificial lighting you will begin to have an idea of the various ways that artificial lights can be used not just to provide illumination in house and office buildings but also the way that it can enhance the beauty of various ornaments and furniture with a few strategically placed lights of varying colors.
Among the various exhibits that you will be able to look at some are housed here on a permanent basis while other exhibits come to Eindhoven for exhibition purposes only. There are about 600 exhibits which are permanently housed in this museum. In addition to this factory you will also be able to look at a statue of Frits Philips in the city of Eindhoven itself. Once you have toured the factory turned museum fully you can choose to see more of the city’s sights or find a great place to relax.
