Zakopane, Poland
For most people going on a vacation means traveling to well known destinations whose names are well recognized. The adventurous on the other hand will embrace the idea of going to a place they have never heard of, such as visiting Zakopane, a city located in Southern Poland. Sometimes this town is also called the winter capital of Poland. This is probably due to the fact that the town is nestled at the foot of the Tatra Mountains.
There are many places of interest you may want to see in Zakopane. These should include the Chata Sabaly. This wooden building which was built in the early 19th century can be found in Stare Krzeptówki. In addition to this building you can also see a building complex which has been built entirely from wood. This complex is found in Kościeliska Street. Besides these wooden structures you will find many examples of Zakopane’s wooden buildings in Krzeptowki, Skibowki and Droga na Roje streets.
Of course you will find that these monuments are not the only sites of interest in Zakopane. You might also want to make a quick stop at the Stary Cmentarz na Pęksowym Brzyzku. Here, you will see where famous writers, artists and mountaineers from the city have been buried. You will find this cemetery located in Kościeliska Street.
The famous Polish composer, Karol Szymanowski’s home the Villa Atma, is also located in Zakopane. This is now a museum dedicated to this composer’s life and is an interesting place. For some more culture you may want to visit the Wladyslaw Hasior Gallery which is located in an old wine cellar in of the Warszawianka Hotel. Here you can see exhibitions of various sorts, theatre shows and art. You may also like to visit some of the museums in the area.
You will find these include the Antoni Rzasa Gallery, Kornel Makuszynski museum, The Tytus Chalubinski Tatra Mountains Museum, Jan Kasprowicz Museum and others. The churches of interest to look at will include a trip to the Old Cemetery Chapel. This chapel is one of the oldest religious architectural buildings in Zakopane. You may also like to see the main church in Zakopane. This church is called the Neurmanesque Church. You will find this church in Krupowki Street. While the church itself is about 100 years old the most important part historically speaking would be that of Saint John the Baptist Chapel.
While sightseeing can unearth interesting places to visit you may also enjoy some of the sports activities to be found in Zapokane. As snow is quite abundant in this part of the country you may find that skiing and snowboarding are pleasurable activities to indulge in while you are here. To get the most fun from these activities you should visit the Gobalowka slopes and Kasprowy Wierch slopes.
In Zakopane you will find many pleasurable places and things to do. The sights you can find will allow you to see some of the country’s history. With enough time on your hands you will find that Zakopane in Poland is a good place to go for a cultural and fun-filled holiday.
