Kranjska Gora, Slovenia
In the country of Slovenia you will be able to find the town of Kranjska Gora. This town lies near the Sava Dolinka River of the Upper Carniola region. The town can be found situated in the far north west of Slovenia near where the borders of Austria, Italy and Slovenia. As you look at this beautiful town you will see that is it set amidst the Zgornjesavska Valley which is a typical Alpine valley. You will find that sometimes the spelling of the valley is spelt as Gornjesavska Dolina. Another name for this valley is that of Dolina.
You will soon discover that Kranjska Gora is well known as a winter sports town, however that does not mean that you will not find anything else to do here. While there are many visitors to the town who come solely for winter sports, you will be pleased to find that during the rest of the year you will also be able to enjoy yourself. Since there are many activities that you can do while you are here, you may want to see what can be done during each of these winter and summer periods.
First off take a look at the various winter time activities you will find in Kranjska Gora. These will range from skiing, ski mountaineering, cross-country skiing, snow boarding, tobogganing, to that of sledding. In addition to these activities you can try climbing a frozen waterfall if that catches your fancy. You will also have fun going snowshoeing in the daytime or even the night. For those of you who prefer a somewhat faster mode of travel you will find there are sleigh rides that you can take part in as well. Once the outdoor activities are done you have the après ski activities to look forward to.
Having looked at these winter time activities you may be interested in seeing what you can do here in Kranjska Gora during the other months. Well since the town is situated in a beautiful looking valley you will be able to explore the surrounding countryside. There are many wonderful nature nooks and crannies which are just waiting for you to come and explore. You can choose to explore the Triglav National Park, the Pericnik waterfall, the Prisank mountain window or even that of Ajdovska deklica. From these natural delights you many want to see the sights which can be found in the town of Kranjska Gora itself.
These interesting places you can see about visiting while in town will include places like the Russian Chapel which was built during 1916 and 1917 to commemorate the various Russian soldiers and prisoners of war who died here as a result of an avalanche. You could on the other hand see about visiting the Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary here in Kranjska Gora. Other interesting places that you will find are the Liznjekova House, a monument which was erected in memory of Jakob Aljaz or even see the Blacksmith’s shop in Dovje “Pr Katr”.
So you see while Kranjska Gora has the reputation of being a winter sports town there is something for everyone to do while they are here. You will have the choice of enjoying the numerous winter sporting activities or seeing the summer time delights as you explore the wonder that is Kranjska Gora.
