Plettenberg Bay, South Africa
The township of Plettenberg Bay in a town called Bitou. Plettenberg Bay which has been nicknamed Plett or even Plet is situated in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. Originally this township was celled Bahia Formosa – beautiful bay – by the early Portuguese explores who came here. The township lies about 210 kilometers from Port Elizabeth and some 600 kilometers from Cape Town. Plettenberg Bay lies along the Garden Route of South Africa.
You will find that Plettenberg Bay is a wonderful place to enjoy a relaxing holiday. There are lots of great activities that you can do while you are here. In addition to these you can relax on the white sandy beaches. These beaches are highly popular with the various tourists and locals who flock here. You have a choice of three different beaches that you can relax on. These are the beaches of Central Beach where you will find the Beacon Isle Hotel, Robberg beach and Lookout beach. The official tourist season here in Plettenberg Bay begins in November.
During your visit to this township you may enjoy visiting the world’s largest free flight aviary. This aviary is known as the Birds of Eden. In addition to this aviary you may enjoy visiting Monkeyland which is a free roaming primate sanctuary. Another place that you should visit while you are in Plettenberg Bay is that of the Robberg Nature and Marine Reserve. This reserve will allow you to see the huge Cape Fur seal colony which lives at the foot of the peninsula in the bay.
You may even see some Great White Sharks which come here during the time when the seal pup are young. Also during the whale migration season you will be able to see whale pods in the bay. A colony of penguins is known to live in the reserve area some parts of the year. For nature lovers you will find that in addition to the Nature and Marine reserve at Robberg you can visit the Lawnwood Snake Sanctuary in Plettenberg Bay. Here you will be able to go on a guided tour where you will see and learn about the various snakes which live in this sanctuary.
On the other hand you may prefer to visit the Elephant Sanctuary. This sanctuary can be found adjacent to both the Monkeyland and Birds of Eden animal parks. At the elephant sanctuary you will be able to interact with some of the wild elephants who live here. While seeing wildlife up close and personal is spectacular you may want to take a break from all of this and visit the Truemilk Dairy located in Plettenberg Bay. At this dairy you will be able to sample some fine Cape wines, liqueurs and great tasting cheeses to sample.
From the dairy you can head off towards some adventure with some sea kayaking in Plettenberg Bay. You can kayak with an experienced guide all the way from the Central Beach to the Robberg Nature Reserve in Plettenberg Bay. You will find this sea kayaking an amazing experience in your holiday. From having thrilling adventures, to great tasting food, to gorgeous wildlife and more, these are thrilling moments that you will get to experience when you come to Plettenberg Bay for a fabulous holiday.
