Benalmádena, Spain
Benalmadena Costa that is in Spain is a town in the Malaga province which is located on the south coast of Spain in Andalusia, and is bordered by the Mediterranean sea from the south, and by other provinces like Cadiz, Cordoba, Sevilla and Granada from other sides.
Benalmadena Costa is located about 12 kilometers away from the city of Malaga which is the second most populated city in Andalusia.
Benalmadena Costa has about 53,000 citizens which are spread over 27 square kilometers (10.4 square miles) which are all spread on land.
Benalmadena Costa is an important location of an Enlightenment Stupa which is the largest Stupa in Europe - it's 108 feet high (33 meters). A Stupa is a building that looks like a small hill and contain Buddhist relics and is an important place of worship for Buddhists.
Over the years Benalmadena Costa has been occupied by many different people and cultures, which date as early as the Bronze age - which is a period of culture which received its name due to being the time when advanced metalworking utilized Bronze.
Benalmadena Costa has been occupied by the ancient civilization Phoenicia which is Canaan and is now modern day Lebanon. Back in the day it spread over the Mediterranean about a millennia and a half BC.
Benalmadena Costa has also been influenced by the ancient Moors which are both historical and modern Muslim populations who descended from North Africa, and conquered the Iberian Peninsula for about 800 years.
Benalmadena Costa has also been occupied by ancient Rome which started out as an agricultural community in the Italian Peninsula and became a very large empire.
Due to the many influences and occupations of Benalmadena Costa you can see two Almenara towers on the Benalmadena Costa coastline that date back to the 15th century. Those towers were built to guard Benalmadena Costa's coast and the local population from pirates of Barbary descent which frequented those areas.
Nowadays Benalmadena Costa serves as an important tourist attraction, due to its many historical buildings with varied designs, and due to it being located next to the sea. Due to those facts it has seen a rapid urban expansion in recent years and many new buildings and houses had to be built, which caused occasional degradation of the environment.
Benalmadena Costa's name is thought to have originated from the Arabic language and to mean Son of the Settlement (Bani al-Medina) but Madena could also be a name of an individual or of a family. It isn't known yet.
Benalmadena Costa consists of three urban areas which include Benalmadena Pueblo which is the original village and is about three kilometers away, Benalmedena Costa, and Arroyo de la Miel.
Benalmadena Costa is an urban agglomeration that is located in the coast and offers a lot for the vacationer that is interested in the night life. Among those are discos, hotels, beaches, a modern marina and many shopping centers, where you can enjoy yourself on a nice vacation from work.
