Calella, Spain
Calella, Spain certainly takes pride in its tourist attractions. This quaint little town is the perfect place to visit in Spain because of its prime location. Most of the other famous and popular places in Spain are within an hour’s drive from Calella. Not to mention that even on its own the town has a lot to offer any visitor willing to stop by for a weekend visit. There are over 400 local shops in Calella, making it impossible to effectively see everything. Besides that, there are parks to sit and relax in and festivals occurring year-round, so why not make Calella your central hub, your “base camp” so to speak, for exploring the wonderful country of Spain?
The older part of town has the vast majority of Calella’s local shops. Most of them can be found at the Carrer de I’Esglesia, which is basically the town’s main street. Anyone willing to look can find anything here, such as boutiques, jewelers, leather workers, souvenir shops, bars, pubs, and restaurants, to name a very small few. The streets also have a traditional, older Spanish theme. Try not to spend all your money in one place, though – there’s still plenty to see and do around the rest of town.
The beautiful Santa Maria parish church is always worth a look-see. The building has an old baroque-style entranceway and is surrounded by 12 statues, each of a different church apostle.
Anyone interested in the town’s history can learn about it at the local museum. The museum here displays 12 complete exhibits detailing separate elements of the history of Calella.
Another historical monument you may consider inspecting is the old lighthouse. In the past, it was used to warn the town of any incoming threats from the Mediterranean, whether it be high-tides or even pirates. In fact, the oil lamp used to light it is still in use today.
The Dalmau Park is another spot in Calella you will often find yourself coming back to. Located in the center of town, it’s a quiet, tranquil place where you can just sit and relax. There are a few fountains around the park, as well as play areas set aside for children.
What makes Calella’s location so special (besides the Mediterranean Sea) is that it’s centered right between two of the most wonderful places in Spain; Barcelona and Port Aventura. Barcelona is one of Spain’s most famous and busiest cities, so that gives you a sure-fire reason to try and see it, but Port Aventura is where the real fun begins. Port Aventura is home to another branch of Universal Studios. With a world-recognized amusement park like that only a few hours away, what’s not to love about this town? Even closer, Europe’s most-famous water park is a simple half-hour drive northeast of Calella, so don’t worry about staying cool.
Calella is a beautiful town with so much to do and see. The tourist bus is easily able to transport you around and show you each aspect of the town. And chances are, if you can’t quite find what you’re looking for in Calella, it’s only a hop, skip, and jump away (or driving distance if you prefer!). Calella takes pride in its tourism, so it makes the most sense to plan your trip to Spain there, in the center of fun.
