Calpe, Spain
Calpe in Spain is also known as Calp, and is a coastal town that is located in the comarca which is a form of administrative subdivision, and is between a municipality and a province, and they do not hold executive bodies of their own.
Calpe is located in the Marina Alta which is also a comarca that is located in the Alicante province, in the Valencian community.
Calpe is near the Mediterranean sea and is spread on about 24 square kilometers, and has a population of about 27,000 people, making it a population density of about 1,122 people per square kilometer.
Calpe is only 67 kilometers away from Alicante, so if you are touring with your friends and family, or by yourself, on a learning trip, a holiday or a vacation, than you can use Calpe as part of the places you intend to visit, or as the base for your travels and touring.
Due to it being close to the Mediterranean sea, it means that you can either take organized cruises with your family and friends, rent a boat and fish by yourself or with some friends, or rent a yacht and take yourself and your friends and family on a joy ride of the surrounding areas.
Nowadays Calpe gets the bulk of its income from fishing and tourism, and if you visit it for a vacation, you can enjoy the shopping in the area or enjoy the local fishing in one of the many seafood restaurants that the town has to offer, where you can enjoy fresh fish.
If you prefer to tour the city and learn about its past, or if you want to also tour the city, you have a lot to see. The town offers many historical archaeological sites of different designs, cultures and eras, including the Arabs, the Romans and the Iberians.
You can visit the ruins of the Los banos de la Reina monument (which translates to "the queen's baths), and you can also visit the local flooded salt flats as well as a local bird sanctuary where migrating birds visit.
Calpe also offers many different churches, including Catholic churches in a Gothic design as well as the La Peca tower which was constructed way back in the 18th century.
Calpe has been inhabited as early as the prehistoric era and some remains have been discovered which date back to the Bronze Age, but the first buildings were done when the Iberians ruled the area. The Iberians usually built in the higher grounds of the area.
Calpe was conquered by the Aragonese admiral Roger de Lauria way back in 1290 and a township called Ifach was built near the Rock of Ifach, which served back then as a place to lookout from for the natives. Ifach was destroyed way back in 1359 by what is nicknamed "the battle of the two Pedros", Pedro the second from Aragon, and Pedro the first from Castille, and it eventually caused a rise in inhabitants.
