Denia, Spain
Denia that is in Spain is a city that is located in the Alacant province, which is a province in the eastern part of Spain and is in the southern part of the community called Valencia, and borders with Murcia and Albacete as well as Valencia. The Mediterranean sea is located to the east of it. The Alicante province got its name from the capital city of the same name.
Denia is located in the Costa Blanca which is located between Alacant and Valencia, and has a population of about 43,000 people, and is close to a nearby resort town called Xabia.
Costa Blanca is a 200 kilometres long coastline in the province of Alicante.
Denia has been inhabited ever since the prehistoric era, and has many important ruins of the Iberian people on nearby hillsides, which you can visit. The Iberian people were a group of people that came from Greek and Roman locations, and due to that weren't exactly defined or categorized under one culture or belief system, etc.
Denia was conquered back in 1244 by Christians and caused a decline in the city's population due to them driving out the Muslim population. It was later repopulated on the behalf of the government of Valencia, but suffered even more after a decree that expelled 25,000 people from the area.
While in Denia you can see the famous castle that is located in a rocky crag from where you can view the entire city. That castle was built as early as the 11th century and ended construction during the 12th century. In the castle you can also enjoy the Palau del Governador which is a museum, or you can simply enjoy the view of the sea and the backlands.
If you want to stop in Denia for a certain amount of time, or continue from it to other interesting locations - using it as one stop in your trip, or as your home base, you can take a ferry which departs each day and takes people to the Balearic islands, which include the famous vacation island of Ibiza. You can also use the railway lines to get to Alicante and its surrounding mountains.
If you are visiting with your family and friends, you can enjoy the annual bonfire festival which takes place each year during the month of March. Many huge statues that are made out of paper mache are constructed and placed in different parts of the town, and will be lit on fire during the festivities.
You can also visit the Bulls at the Sea event (Bous a la Mar) which is held each year during the month of July, and offers a week long festival where people can watch the bulls run down the main streets, or participate in the run if you are brave enough.
You can also enjoy the local football team's matches which take place in the Spanish second division (division B) and is called Club Deportivo Denia.
