Maspalomas, Spain

Maspalomas is located in the Canary Islands of Spain on Grand Canaria and is home to some of the most beautiful white sand beaches on the island. The beach stretches for 6K. Along the beach you will even find a fresh water lake. This town is a paradise for vacationers looking to get some sun and just relax. This vacations spot is popular for its upscale nightlife and mature feeling. The location is great for the sophisticated professional looking to get away.

Many of the Maspalomas restaurants offer a variety of international cuisine and some local favourites. The majority of the restaurants double as pubs, bars and night clubs in the evening. The best way to have a really good time in the evening is to join the locals in their afternoon siesta; the night life is exciting yet sophisticated.

The beaches can become fairly crowded during the height of the summer season, and at times you might encounter some 'naturists' who are enjoying the sun in the nude; this fact makes Maspalomas a great sport for adults during the height of the summer but perhaps not for young children.

If you are looking for something to do while on vacation the Island is home to 4 world class golf courses for the golf enthusiast, as well as a large shopping complex for those who are less interested in golf. You may also take a boat ride, or rent a boat for your own trip. There are fishing charters available as well if there is an Angler in your life. You can schedule a Jeep safari, or even camel rides if you are so inclined.

Maspalomas is home to a large water park with 33 water slides and 13 other attractions. The Dunes of Maspalomas cover 4K outside of Maspalomas and are protected as part of the Special Nature Reserve of Maspalomas; this is a great place for tourists to visit but be advised, you will be asked to remain on marked trails as the ecology in this area is delicate. There is no shortage of entertainment that's for sure.
The Maspalomas climate is fantastic all year round and see's more calm weather than any other part of the island. The temperature remains comfortable all year round with lows of approximately 17 degrees celsius and rarely above 28 degrees celsius. Rain in the summer is rare, while it can be expected often between October and April.

Grand Canaria airport is located in Las Palmas, just outside of Maspalomas but there are car hire services, coach transfer services as well as taxis and public buses that can help you get to your accommodation with no trouble. If you are planning to rent a car be advised that a passport and a valid license from your home country will be required. Random breathalyzer tests are performed on the Island, where the legal limit is .05%, and violators are subject to a fine regardless of what country you are from.
