Palmanova, Spain
The western Mediterranean resort city of Palma Nova is situated on the south west coast of the largest Spanish Island of Majorca. It has a population of about 380,000 and is one of the major cities of Balearic Island.
The best time to visit the Majorcan city of Palma Nova is in summer; a time when you can revive the enthusiasm you had in your youth and participate in the many festivals Palma Nova is famous for, as all corners of this Mediterranean Jewel come alive. Music is in abundance, with numerous clubs ready to satisfy even the most discerning of tastes. Music festivals begin in the months of July with fancy dress parades held during the month of March. Couples seeking a more relaxed romantic vacation, or families or business travelers, tend to visit during the period between late October and early March. The weather is generally favorable in Palma Nova with the island receiving typically around three hundred days of sunshine with highs that can reach the mid 30’s to the low 40’s during hot summer days
The sun kissed beaches of Playa de Palma Nova turn golden in the summer, and are perfect for sun bathing. Although the beach is about five hundred meters long it can get packed during the peak tourist season. It is known to attract several tourists from the British Isles, neighboring mainland Spain, and other countries; other beaches of interest are the Playa del Cargador, and Playa de son Maties.
The city of Palma Nova, like all others in the Majorcan Island, has a vibrant night life with bars, pubs and clubs such as bananajoes, mulligan’s and BCM to name but a few that you can visit. Many of the world’s finest DJ’s are known to be resident professionals in Palma Nova.
In addition you can try your hand at any of the three 18-hole mini golf courses in Golf Fantasia. Situated not too far at Calviá, tickets are available on-line at their site; also the water park Aqualand, is an amusement park with several water based games and slides, a great way to spend time with your family on your visit here. However it should be noted that the amusement park opens according to season so check first before making a trip there.
Palma Nova hotels offer great value for all-inclusive guests, especially during low season. Hotel Santa Lucia is situated at Calle Duc d'Extremera, and it features animation teams, has good facilities, friendly staff and a pool that overlooks the beach of Playa de son Maties. Another good hotel is the Hotel Palmanova, which is situated at Calle Miquel dels Sants Oliver just two hundred meters from the beach.
Even though mainstream fast food establishments such as McDonalds, and Wimpy’s have set up in the city of Palma Nova, you can still dine and appreciate fine food and wine at places such a Ciro’s a contemporary restaurant, or you can try the Sopranos for Italian cuisine. Really the available choices on where to find fine food are many, and you can be sure to come away from Palma Nova gastronomically enriched. Planning a stay there even if it is only for a few days is well worth it, as you will come away relaxed and refreshed ready to tackle the world once again.
