Vigo, Spain
The Largest city in Galicia Spain, Vigo is also the largest city in Spain that is not a capital city. Because of its beautiful views and mild temperatures Vigo is becoming a tourist destination.
Many that come to Vigo come for the nice weather. That means they want to hit the beach. The Beach a Punta is a popular destination. The Beach a Punta, located in Parish of Teis, is 127 miles wide and features a car park, access to the Red Cross, and life guards are on duty. There is also a promenade close by. Visitors can shop at the various store and dine at the close restaurants.
Those looking for a seaside resorts should head to the Rias Bajas. The Rias Bajas are long inlets cut into the coastline north and south of Vigo proper. The less rugged terrain makes the views much more favorable to tourists. These areas are predominately populated by fishermen but the views and coastline are becoming more and more sought after by tourists.
If you are interested in spectacular views, then take a trip to Candean-Vixiador. This area is a wonderful spot for picnics. It also has a nice bar and restaurant for those who aren’t the picnic type. In any case the viewpoints are a definate on anyone’s site seeing list.
Those who are interested in a little adventure, take a boat ride out to the Islas Cies. This group of islands is located at the mouth of the Ria de Vigo. Visitors to these islands can enjoy wandering through the natural forests and enjoying the nature around them. Visitors can camp, in a designated area only, bird watch and fish. The only way to get to the islands is by boat from Vigo and the trip takes approximately forty-five minutes.
Those that are less interested in loving nature but want to visit sacred monuments should be sure to visit the Colegiata de Santa Maria. Built in the early sixteenth century, this is one of the finest churches in all of Vigo. The church sports a renaissance façade and iconic columns. Music lovers can enjoy many of the concerts held there.
Another religious stop is the Church of Castrelos. The Church of Castrelos was built in 1216. It’s unique semicircle apse at the sanctuary makes it a must see. This is building still sees services and is the place where the Feast of San Brais and As Candelas is held. Each year visitors come to the liturgical services held on this feast day to light a votive in offering for the cure of various illnesses.
With beauty, sun and religious sites Vigo has become one of the top tourist stops in Spain.
