Luzern, Switzerland

Lucerne is located on lake Lucerne and surrounded by some of the most incredible mountains you will ever see. Many travel groups will stop in to visit Lucerne because of its attractive lake side setting and the souvenir shops dotted throughout the city. Lucerne is close to everything including the mountains, water, small town living and big city excitement.

Lucerne is home to what is thought to be one of the oldest covered wooden bridges in Europe. The medieval Chapel Bridge is right in the centre of the city of Lucerne. In addition to the bridge a popular landmark is the Museggmauer. The Museggmauer is in almost it's completely original state when it was first built hundreds of years ago. One of the museggmauers towers was rebuilt but with that exception the rest of it is in its original condition.

Old traditional style houses are placed side by side up the sides of the streets adorned with frescoes. The town is truly a sight to see, absolutely stunning. Some things you will see lots of in Lucerne is churches and town squares. The most important part of the towns heritage buildings are the Jesuit church, the first sacral Baroque building in all of Switzerland was built in the 17th century, and of course the twin towers of the Hofkirche.

Lucerne is where tradition meets modernity. The Lucerne town hall stands out because its innovative modern design, and is truly one of the city's architectural marvels and the hub of lots of excitement over the course of the year. Some of the best things to see in Lucerne are the Chapel bridge, the town hall also called the KKL or Culture and Convention Centre of Lucerne, and The Swiss Museum of Transport.

Lucerne is a great beginning spot for a tour across Switzerland with its picturesque landscape from Lake Lucerne and the mountain range that seems to hold it so tightly in it's embrace, to the Cherry road that leads from Lucerne twisting and winding through a seamingly endless field of cherry trees and kirsch.
When visiting Lucerne do not forget to take a ride on either a ferry, a steamer, or a motor boat on the beautiful Lake Lucern. Also a trip up the mountain can be a very beautiful experience, peering down on the stunning landscape will be an experience you will not soon forget.
Lucerne unfortunately does not have it's own airport, it is so close to Zurich that flying into Zurich and taking a train or bus into Lucerne from there is little trouble. Zurich does have a full service international airport which receives hundreds of planes everyday. Lucerne is among the most beautiful parts of Switzerland, and can guarantee you will not be disappointed if you choose to visit no matter what time of the year. Lucerne is equally beautiful in the summer and in the winter. The natural beauty and stunning architecture in Lucerne will be hard to beat.
