In the southwest of downtown Los Angeles, U.S.A. you will find the city of Inglewood. It is located close to the Los Angeles International Airport (or LAX as it fondly referred to by locals) and the main area is Morningside Park. Inglewood is part of the greater Los Angeles area and was founded in the 1800s.
Sports are a big part of the American culture and the city has been home to the Hollywood Park racetrack since 1938. You can take a gamble on one of the many races held daily and there are multiple facilities available. The racetrack has a number of clubs where you can get a drink and socialize. If you want to try your luck on a different game you can visit the casino located inside Hollywood Park. Also located in Inglewood is the Forum, an indoor sports facility which is home of the famous Los Angeles Lakers basketball team. There are also live concerts and other events regularly held at this venue.
When you are looking for activities, you can find a lot of different things to do in Inglewood itself or in Los Angeles proper and other surrounding areas. In downtown Inglewood you can find a number of bars, clubs and restaurants and you will also find a casino, bowling and other fun facilities to help you while away the time.
If you would like to enjoy the local nature you can hike in one of California's State Parks. You can find 17 of them located in the Los Angeles area. The closest one to Inglewood is the Kenneth Hahn state recreation area. Here, you will find many facilities available like playgrounds, a basketball court, a fishing lake, a volleyball court and picnic shelters which you can rent including a built-in barbeque.
Part of the living heritage of the city is the Inglewood Park Cemetery. The first community Mausoleum was built in 1914 and the Mausoleum of the Golden West, one of the most beautiful mausoleums in the world, was built during the 1930s and 40s. The Manchester Garden Mausoleum contains a large number of chapels and sanctuaries. Hundreds of people have been placed for final resting in this cemetery among which are some of the famous stars from Hollywood like Cesar Romero and Ella Fitzgerald.
Located in Los Angeles you can visit the California Science Centre. Here you can learn about science in a fun way and visit the many exhibits. Some of the main attractions are the High Wire Bicycle, the Motion-Based Simulator and the Ecology Cliff Climb. New special exhibits are displayed regularly and there are many different attractions and educational displays suitable for all ages.
Both Inglewood and the Los Angeles area are lively and full of fun activities and facilities. By renting a car you can easily travel between the two cities and the surrounding area.
